Peace River fishing

Allen fished the Peace River pretty much every day. He filled our freezer with bass! It's such a pretty river as I drop him off and pick him up too.

Why we winter in the south

This is why we head south for the winter! We usually go to Florida, sometimes California or Arizona, and this year Texas for a change, but we always go south, because we can! We endured decades of Ohio winters and now we avoid them at all costs. The cats stayed behind to keep the mice out of the barn. (Yes, they had someone to feed and play with them - and now they're fat and lazy!) But the snow didn't bother them at all. They took some pics of the snow for us (the caretakers, not the cats!). Of course Arkansas had a pretty mild winter and (besides freezing nights) only had a few days of just a little snow. Too much for us though! Walker Kitty doesn't look happy, but then she never does. It didn't seem to affect her, but then nothing ever does. :)

This week on Lundy mountain

Since Allen hung a deer feeder in the tree with the swing, he moved the swing by our front porch. I'd enjoy it more if it weren't too cold to go outside. Obviously it's not too cold for Matt, even without shoes. Josh has taken over the greenhouse for his electric guitar loud room.  Too bad it's not sound proof. We love the rainbow sunsets around here.  I got a photo of Matt in the deer stand. More leaves are down, so he's a bit easier to spot.  Sometimes we find scary things on the trail camera!  Sometimes, after hours of hunting and monitoring trail cameras, the deer just show up in the yard at lunchtime to mock us. We were eating venison, so the joke's on him. :)

Oh, these cats

How much do these cats sleep? Most of the day, unless it's whack & pack day, then they "help". Why does Walker sleep upside down? Why does she do most of everything she does... Josh left his coat outside to not smell "too humany" for hunting. Hope the deer like the smell of cats. They apparently sneak around at night, stealing the deer peanut butter lick! And sometimes they scale trees just for fun. Walker went quickly all the way to the top and Chewie slowly made his way up, until she raced him down. Whack & pack day, so fun for them. Chewie likes to play with his food. :/

Fall, football, hunting, and silly cats

Fall sure is pretty on the mountain. Fall also means Buckeyes games and buckeye fudge!  And deer processing, lots of deer processing. Today Josh just decided to learn to tan hides. He's tried a few techniques and is getting pretty good. Amazing what you can find on YouTube.  The cats enjoy "helping" with deer processing too. I won't show you all of that, but you can see them trying to get a good view of the happenings.  Chewie really, really likes to copy his mama. It's just strange sometimes how much.

The hunter's deer stand

Allen built one deer stand in a tree down in the woods, that I figured out I could spot with my zoom lens. The tree is downhill, so the top is above the trees behind our goat/chicken pen. He's right in the middle. See him?  Oops, I'm busted! He's not a fan. :)

The Travs

The Travaglino family came to visit for a few days after the Grahams pulled out. They rested up after a busy rally and learned how slow time moves on the mountain! We took a ferry ride and enjoyed the sunset.  The ferry's fun because you can stand outside enjoying the view or chatting with other riders, or you can stay inside and be silly.  It was so nice to hang out with our friends again, and to add yet another state we've camped in together!
