We wanted to hit the beach and the Biscayne visitor center for the Junior Ranger program, so we headed southeast for a day trip. We spent a little time at Biscayne learning about the mostly underwater national park. The kids finished the Junior Ranger badge and got a special patch for earning badges at all three southern Florida parks, Big Cypress, Everglades, and Biscayne!
Then we went to Key Largo (You can't go there without singing the song... Key Largo, Montego, baby why don't we go...) for some swimming, snorkeling, and sun at John Pennekamp State Park. Allen and the kids snorkeled a shipwreck and saw a giant anchor, cannons, lionfish, lobster, jewfish, a crab that almost got Allen, and other interesting life underwater. I was barely walking (darn back injury) so I sat on the sidelines on the beach, sideways, but happy to be on a beach.
