Amish country

We're in Lancaster County, PA so I was excited to see some of the Amish towns I've read about recently.  It wasn't like my books.  I guess they are fiction.  We went to a pass-the-plate-family-style restaurant which was yummy, but it wasn't authentically Amish.  It was very touristy.  The whole area was weirdly touristy.  Allen calls it glamor Amish.  But they roll the buses in and out like crazy.
Since he grew up in Adams County OH, and we spent many days perusing Amish furniture stores, and buying way too many creme horns in Amish bakeries, from friendly Amish people, it's just weird.  So Allen and I went back to hunt for the real thing and found it on the back roads.  That was more like I expected.  We even found a great roadside stand where Mrs. Fisher bakes and Mr. Fisher and the kids sell goodies out front.  We bought some shoo fly and whoopie pies.  The little boy was shocked that we hadn't tried shoo fly pie before.  I bet he'd be surprised I blogged it too.  I have a feeling we'll be back.  The area was beautiful and so peaceful.  Much more like my books.
Except no creme horns, anywhere. Maybe just the Ohio Amish make creme horns.  Guess we'll be visiting Ohio soon.
Yeah, we need creme horns.

That looks so beautiful! I went to Amish country when I was in middle school but didn't appreciate it like I would now. I went through an obsession about 5 years ago with the Amish Fiction writer Beverly Lewis. Like a serious obsession. I would love to go back now to see things through that lens! And get a shoo fly pie!
THEY DON'T HAVE CREAM HORNS THERE????

THAT IS TRAGIC AND WORTHY OF ALL CAPS ALL THE TIME!!!!!!!
