Look out squirrels

There's not a whole lot happening on the RVstead.  We feed animals, step over animals, find the cat asleep in strange places, plant plants, water plants, water animals, and try to stay out of the heat.  We figured there would be a lot of downtime in the heat of the summer and we're sure glad the barn is up and mostly finished.  It's hot!  Not too hot for target practice though.  Lizzy's ready for a squirrel hunt! She's been doing target practice with Allen lately and is getting good.  We're all trained (for safety) on all of our weapons, but she wanted to get accurate and try her hand at hunting.  So she worked on that, then on the most important part to her, the clothes.  :)

Lizzy's new ears

Lizzy decided she finally wanted her ears pierced after years of being too scared not being interested. She said it was nothing and is so glad she did. Look, Grandma! :)

Boys

Why can't our kids just jump on a trampoline?? Or just bounce on a slackline??  The two should probably never be combined...

Sleepy cat, greenhouse, seeds, chicks

The kitten fell asleep in the trash basket again, paw hanging out. Weirdo. We even threw more empty bags on top of her. She sleeps hard most of the day, then wakes up in the evenings to terrorize chickens, blades of grass, strawberry plants...  Allen and the boys worked on the greenhouse and got the door and half of the last wall up. We put the last table in and I finished mulching the floor.  I think these tables need a bright coat of paint, but it's just too hot out there to be sure. Maybe one of these days.   I went all Pinterest -y and used toilet paper roll and paper towel roll tubes for planting seeds. Then when we replant them, we can leave them right in the biodegradable planters.  Easy peasy!  Also the little chicks have been assimilated into the coop with the big chicks. The older set still claim the very top roost.  Tonight the little ones at least finally got off the floor where they were huddled together last night....

Sleepy Kitty, goats, greenhouse

This cat, she sleeps hard!  I walked away from my mulching for a few minutes, and she'd made herself quite comfortable.  A while later we found her asleep on top of the 4-wheeler, inside a hat. Yeah, the cat in the hat.  And later, our last two windows were finally installed tonight.  The steel cutters/drillers/hammers are VERY loud and all the farm animals scattered and hid.  We couldn't find the cat, until we realized she'd never left.  She was still on the work table, in the same room as the installers, snoozing away.   Kids playing with kids. Josh and Matt were jumping on the goat play land too.   Josh and Lily, so cute. Deuce fell and just wanted a hug. :)  Now that the windows are in, we can finish the greenhouse. Allen just needs to build one more wall.  I got most of the floor finished, after the cat woke up.

A very happy 4th!

Hope you had a happy Independence Day (or Friday if you're not in the US).  We had a not-exactly-traditional Fourth of July Fish Fry with our great neighbors!  The boys had another overnight "fish camp" and brought home fresh catfish and crawdads for the feast.  This was the extent of our decorating.  (Love our window markers !)  We could see two fireworks displays over the mountains, but there was plenty of fun right in our own field. :)  The kids had SO much fun.  It's so nice that they're free to be crazy excited kids and that the neighbors not only don't mind, they join in. (Not bad for an iPhone pic!) The video is sideways. (Just pretend you're on a blanket.)  Matt always seems to have something to say at the end of any fireworks videos I take.  Doesn't look like your typical backyard sparklers here! (Thanks Bill and Max!) Josh took this picture. I shouldn't have let him use the camera, but it was too early to get up. :) ...
