Leaks, mysterious leaks

what are the odds??? seriously! i don't want pity or anything, i just really want to know these odds. and i might need to start playing the lottery. what are the odds of having two totally unrelated leaks in two separate ceilings, with water pouring through, neither of which is rain water??????? pretty wild? well add to that we actaully do have two roof leaks but they're contained in buckets and are not in any way related to these ceiling issues! that is just messed up! yeah, we have another water leak. last one, the cracked bathroom pipe, is fixed. beautiful faux painted tin ceiling, it's wonderful. today we found another. two rooms away, no pipes above it. fortunately not as devastating as the last, which was hours of a waterfall though the house, twice. this one was just enough water to weaken the plaster and come through. fortunately the carpet is already up and directly under it was a box of magazines that contained the water (plus a neglected house plant th...

Where do babies come from?

so, today we visited with my sister-in-law whose baby is due in 3 weeks. i told my 3-yr-old josh that he'd have a new cousin to play with very soon. he said where ? he's in her belly now, but will come out soon. he walks around her studying her very large belly and says did you eat it ??? ahhh, what fun! now, how to scrap that one???

Harry Potter by candlelight!

we're jumper cabling it again! our electricless evening was quite eventful. read harry potter by candle light *whoooo*. then dh and i wake up hearing the door open around 2 am. faithful sydney bolts downstairs to check it out and gives us the all clear. dh goes down to check it out anyway, armed with a flashlight. finds the door closed but not all the way. did he shut it when he came in last night? did someone come in and hear syd and leave? who cares i suppose, they're not here now. so a little excitement. and hard to get back to sleep in the heat. :( then ds wakes up to tummy cramps and has to go potty. so i stumble over his toys, shoulda cleaned those up during the daylight. but he can't go. for hours we do this. back to bed, i fall asleep, he yells, try again, nothing. once i woke up thinking i'd cast a spell on his bowels to loosen them up!!!!!! yep, too much harry potter i guess. then i find out dh got up with him once and it ALL...

Jumper Cables Anyone?

my goodness today's been interesting. allen worked all day to upgrade our electric so we can get A/C installed, and can't quite get it finished. got shocked too, so that slowed him down a little. now we have to wait 7-10 days for the electric company to do their part so we can finish up. lovely. no electric? oh no, he's wired the boxes together outside with jumper cables! yes jumper cables are running our house at the moment. dangerous? stupid? probably. his response, we'll we'll just do it for a little while to get ready, take showers, then unhook them. geesh, can you say hicks?? oh, and we managed to squeeze in a trip to the ER for josh. shut his thumb in the car door on one of our many trips to the hardware store for a "my husband needs something that looks like this, but this part is bigger". he's fine now and loves his new cast. really just gauze, it's only cut. course it cut half his thumbnail off also. he screamed eve...

We're skydivers!!!

Well Allen and I made it safely from 13,000 feet back to the ground! We went skydiving today, and this time the clouds cooperated, with only a few visiting to make my decent thru them very awesome. Here's proof: To quote myself as seen on my video "HOLY CRAP!!!!!" Yes my parents were very proud of th at moment. It was so unbelievably, incredibly, amazingly better than I ever imagined! If you've ever considered trying it, just go do it. Now. Really. Why are you still here? Seriously, we thought we'd do it once and have that one experience, but it's now officially our annual anniversary trip. We'd do it every week if we were rich. My goodness it's so much fun. And strangely, I was never once scared or in fear of my life. Even leaning out of the plane, I just thought, well here we go. And freefalling, man, I just thought how cool is this?! Wheeee! Gliding down with the parachute, jeepers. Beautiful scenery, fun doing 360s, just peaceful and awes...

Ouch, my hand.

tired of my misadventures yet? i sure am. they never end though. here's the next chapter in my must-be-written book. my hand hurts. my son and i got locked out of the house. allen has a key and is only a half mile away, but we don't have time. late for an appointment. there's a basement window. you have to crawl thru our "secret room" which must have been a place to store coal or something back in the day. it's a high window. it's a small window. it's been done before. twice. in the room untouched thru time, i can't decide if i should go, leaving 3-yr-old josh in that room alone, or lower him through the window and see if he can manage to climb the stairs and open the door at the top in the dark. still deciding, and banging on the window, my hand goes through the glass. ouch. hmm. now there's the issue of broken glass to consider. leave josh with it in one room or make him walk through it in another. ugh. guess i'll stop and pick ...
